Dates for your Diary

Upcoming Events

Our next event of 2025 will be a visit to Harper Adams University on the 2nd May 2025 from 11:00 to 16:00.

Harper Adams University is set close to the town of Newport in the Shropshire Countryside at TF10 8NB.

The day will be a mixture of talks and a visit to the Future Farm at the University where research into Sustainable Agricultural Practices is taking place. Our hosts will be the research group of Professor Michael Lee and a timetable for the day is attached and a summary given below.

The day will start at 11:00am in the Regional Food Academy (RFA) Foyer with refreshments before a welcome by Professor Michael Lee who is currently Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University.
This will include an introduction to Harper Adams - The journey so far and the vision for the future and an update on the groups research into the Nutritional Value of Pasture-based Beef.
This research follows on from the lecture given by Dr Sarah Morgan to the Dexter Cattle Society in July 2021.
This will be followed by a talk on the ABP PRISM story by Professor Jude Capper which is an initiative to improve the sustainability of red meat production by 2030.
The final talk before lunch will be on Low Carbon Beef Production at Future Farm by Dr James McCaughern.
We will have a buffet lunch before setting off on a short walk to Future Farm where we will be given a tour of the Beef and Dairy Unit.
On our return to the RFA we will have refreshments before departing at approx. 16:00.

I am sure the day will include plenty of time for questions and discussion and provide us Dexter keepers with a valuable insight  into the movement towards sustainable farming practices and sustainable beef production.
The cost of the visit will be £20 per person to cover refreshments for the day, including a buffet lunch.
A booking form will be emailed out to all those wishing to attend and will include payment details and space for any dietary requirements before the event.
If you would like to join us for this insightful day please contact Penny Wadey (MDG Secretary)  [email protected]  as soon as possible and by the 31st March at the latest so that we know the number attending.

I hope that many of you are able to join us on the 2nd May.
Best wishes
Penny
